Digital Media Security Resources
The digital media industry is rapidly evolving to meet consumer demand of providing premium content anywhere, anytime. As content stakeholders move closer to this goal, they are also trying to achieve an optimal balance of content protection, interoperability and a high quality customer experience. Below are some of the digital rights management (DRM) standards and industry specifications that have been defined such that secure content can be seamlessly delivered to recognized consumers.
AACS (Advanced Access Content System)
A specification for managing content stored on the next generation of prerecorded and recorded optical media for consumer use with PCs and CE devices
DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives)
System Specifications v1.2 – guideline authored by member companies: Disney, Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Studios, establish uniform specifications for Digital Cinema
DTCP-IP
A specification for Digital Transmission Content Protection over Internet Protocol for the delivery of secure copyrighted content that is transferred over digital interfaces to home networks. DTCP – IP enables content to be securely shared between devices in a user’s home but not shared with third-parties outside the home network. DTCP-IP was developed jointly by Intel, Toshiba, Hitachi, Sony, and Panasonic.
OMA DRM
A digital rights management solution created by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) for the mobile industry for the purpose of protecting mobile content. Members of OMA include mobile phone and system manufacturers, operators and information systems companies to ensure interoperability across devices and platform.
Robustness Rules - a set of security rules that specify the level of robustness required to protect a device and licensed content from hacker attacks. The rules are typically set by compliance and robustness bodies for manufactures and require specific criteria to be addressed by hardware implementations, a secure CPU or the unavailability of underlying code as an open source offering.
