Driving App Adoption with Enterprise App Stores

drive_app_adoptionOrganizational leaders are on the prowl for enterprise mobile apps that can enable employees to get their work done whenever and wherever they need to. They’re also keen on deploying enterprise app stores as a means of promoting and distributing mobile apps that are available to employees and business partners. By 2017, 25% of enterprises will have an enterprise app store, according to Gartner. The potential productivity gains from the mobile workforce are helping to foster the sale of enterprise mobile apps which are expected to reach $4.8 billion by 2017, according to IDC. To help drive mobile app adoption, enterprise app stores need to be easy for employees to locate and download mobile apps. One way to make an enterprise app store more intuitive is by clearly categorizing the apps that are available in the store by job function. This way, employees who work in sales, field service, or finance can easily find the types of apps that can assist them in their respective roles. Another way to drive mobile app adoption with an enterprise app store is by keeping it fresh. This can be achieved, in part, by regularly updating employees on new apps that have been added to the store, including those that offer widespread productivity appeal across a variety of job types. Examples of such apps include mobile document storage services, content sharing apps such as Bump, and task reminders. Here are some additional tips for strengthening app adoption using enterprise app stores:
  • Provide employees with a simple but clear description of the enterprise app store and what it offers to them.
  • On the home page, highlight the “app of the month” along with the top 5 or 10 apps by downloads. This is an effective way to draw users into the store.
  • Feature user reviews and use short excerpts to attract attention. Actively encourage employees to share their feedback on apps, including strengths and weaknesses.
  • Use high-quality screen shots to promote available apps. Many employees will take the next step to download an app based on how attractive it looks in a screen shot.
