Enterprise Mobile Apps: Why Delivering an Elegant User Experience is Crucial

Enterprise Mobile Apps Why Delivering an Elegant User Experience is CrucialIn order to drive adoption of enterprise mobile apps and bolster productivity, the user experience with mobile apps needs to be made simple and effortless. After all, in order to attain the productivity gains that can be achieved, the user interface needs to be attractive, intuitive, and easy to use. A good starting point is by making sure the user interface is eye-catching and intuitive. Users should be able to discern what actions to take simply by looking at the screen. Any tasks should be fast and easy to complete. If a user gets hung up on a particular task, they’re likely to abandon the app. In the past, user interfaces were cluttered with buttons and icons. Now, the focus is on content and ensuring that the buttons that are used are clearly marked for innate navigation. It’s also important involve employees in the design process of enterprise mobile apps to better understand their expectations for interface characteristics and application workflow requirements. For instance, transitioning data collection practices for field service workers from paper to tablets isn't enough if the new app doesn't make the process easier for technicians. Canvas employees and work teams to identify and incorporate those aspects of the user interface and application workflows that matter most to them. Gathering and acting on employee feedback is one of the benefits of managing mobile app testing at scale with hundreds or even thousands of users. By doing so, developers can incorporate user feedback into the development process to improve the user experience and ultimately strengthen adoption once the app goes live. Of course, the user experience extends beyond the functionality and presentation of enterprise mobile apps. There are emotional, aesthetic, and hedonic aspects to the user experience that also need to be considered. One way to understand and capture these is by asking users what they like or dislike about a mobile app and ensuring that the most coveted features are included while any pain points are either eliminated or improved. Mobile is dynamic and is changing continuously. Developers of enterprise mobile apps need to be able to recognize the components of the user experience that work, which ones don’t, and to make adjustments as needed.
