Mobile App Strategy: Plain and Simple

We live in a technology-driven world -- but that doesn't mean that we all have to be techno-geeks. There is still room for the rest, the ones who aren't the first adopters or can program in HTML5 in their sleep. And even if you aren't tech savvy, you can still be a main contributor for implementing a mobile app strategy for your enterprise.

Tech Isn't the First Step

Don’t be scared by all of the overwhelming features that can be included in enterprise apps or your IT staff debating on how to make the back-end programming work with the front end graphics. In reality, a mobile app strategy has more to do with people. What do people need? What does the HR department need in order to make sure employees are receiving superior training to improve retention? What do your customers need in order to put your company at the top of their purchasing list? Stakeholders are crucial in terms of creating enterprise mobile apps -- and if you focus on that instead of all of the intimidating programming, you will be able to create a strategy that will work for your business.

Ask "Why?"

When you are a part of a team that responsible for deciding what types of apps your company needs, you need to keep asking why. If someone suggests a specific mobile app, ask them why they think it is important for your company. And don’t be distracted or dissuaded until you receive a satisfactory answer. Not only will this allow your team to remove apps that will be a waste of time and resources, but you will also be able to have an adequate description of what the app will need to do to pass on to the programmers. Again, no tech experience necessary, just common sense and the ability to be apply logic to the situation.

Mobile App User Testing

You will need to conduct mobile app user testing as they are developed and after launch to make sure they meet the needs and expectations of your stakeholders. This is just a matter of using the application and determining what works and what doesn't. Sometimes a background in technology can be a hindrance when it comes to testing applications. They need to be useable for those with little-to-no tech experience so you can offer valuable feedback to IT when it comes to testing new applications. No matter what your background is in, you can craft a comprehensive mobile app strategy. Remember, your enterprise apps will be used by people so they need to work well, be helpful, and improve business functions. You don’t need to be a master programmer to accomplish that.
